A simple online word processor: write online, download the file
This online word editor is a simple online word processor: write online on an A4 or Letter page, with headings, lists, tables and pictures, then download the result as a Word (.docx) file or a PDF. It is free, runs in any current browser and needs no Microsoft or Google account; the document saves as you type.
How to create a Word document online
- Pick the paper. Page, in the bottom-right corner, sets A4 or Letter. The page you write on and the PDF both follow it.
- Write and format. Choose Normal text or a heading in the toolbar, select words to make them bold or italic, and add lists, tables and pictures where you need them.
- Download. Download, then Word (.docx), saves a file for LibreOffice, Google Docs, Pages or Microsoft Word. Download, then PDF, keeps the layout fixed for sending or printing.
What the .docx keeps
| On the page | In the Word file |
|---|---|
| Headings 1–3 | Word heading styles |
| Bold, italic, underline, strikethrough | Kept |
| Text colour and highlight | Kept |
| Bulleted and numbered lists | Word lists |
| Checklists | Lines with ☐ and ☑ boxes |
| Tables | Word tables, header row included |
| Pictures and links | Kept, at the width chosen on the page |
The document itself stays in your browser, saved as you type, so you can come back to it and download a fresh copy after every change. The .docx is put together on your own computer, and no copy goes anywhere else.

Questions
How can I create a Word document online for free?
Write it here and choose Download, then Word (.docx). The file is made in your browser and lands in your downloads like any other, ready for Microsoft Word, Google Docs, LibreOffice or Pages. There is no sign-up, no trial and no watermark.
Do I need a Microsoft or Google account?
Not here. Microsoft’s web version of Word asks you to sign in, and creating a Google Doc needs a Google account. This editor has no accounts at all: the document lives in your browser, and the .docx you download is yours to keep, send or share.
What can’t this word editor do?
It is made for writing, not page production. There are no tracked changes or comments, no footnotes, headers or footers, no columns or manual page breaks, and no mail merge. One person writes on one device; to share a document, send the downloaded file.
Will my document look the same in Microsoft Word?
Headings, bold and italic, colours, lists, tables, links and pictures come through. The .docx uses Georgia, a serif font found on Windows and Mac computers (other systems substitute a similar one), instead of the faces on this page, so lines and pages can break in different places. For a layout that never moves, download a PDF.
Can I choose between A4 and Letter?
Yes. Page, in the bottom-right corner, switches between A4 (210 × 297 mm) and Letter (8.5 × 11 in). It starts on the size usual where you are, changes the page you write on and sets the paper size of the PDF download.
Can I write a document on my phone?
Yes. On a narrow screen the page fills the width, the toolbar scrolls sideways and the document saves the same way. Each device keeps its own documents, so download the file to carry it from one to another.
